Ather scooters get FAME-II subsidy in India.

After Okinawa electric scooters got the FAME-II subsidy, now Bangalore’s Ather Energy has announced that their scooters too will be benefitted from the subsidy. This means that the customers will now have to pay less than the original price of the scooter. To let you know, under the FAME (Faster Adoption And Manufacture Of Electric Vehicles) scheme government provides certain subsidies and perks to electric vehicle customers and makers so as to promote the adoption and making of electric vehicles in the country. This subsidy is determined on the basis of the battery capacity and other parameters of the vehicle. The FAME-2 subsidy for Ather 450 is around Rs. 27,000 and the company is passing on Rs. 5,000 of this subsidy to the customers. This effectively brings down the price of the S450 to Rs. 1.23 lakhs, on road Bangalore. The company is also deferring deliveries to ensure that buyers get the scooter at a new price.

Ather Energy aspires to be India’s Tesla and is an up and coming company that only has products in Bangalore as of now. The company has two electric scooters in the market – Ather S340 and Ather S450. The two scooters have already got good reviews from several websites and the company now plans to expand its infrastructure to other cities before launching their scooters there. This move is aimed at providing the optimum experience to the customers of the electric scooters. The startup also has significant investors like Hero MotoCorp and Flipkart founder Sachin Bansal. In the coming times the company also plans on bringing out an electric sportsbike in the Indian market.

The company released an official statement regarding its products getting the FAME-II subsidy,

Ather Energy today announced that their flagship intelligent scooter, Ather 450 is FAME 2 compliant and will receive an increased subsidy of Rs. 27,000. Though orders for the scooter have continued in Bengaluru through the month of April, deliveries had been held off by the company so the new subsidy benefit could be passed on to the owners. Consumers can expect their Ather 450s to start being delivered in the next couple of weeks, with the new on road price of Rs. 1,23,230. Ather Energy is one of the first auto companies in India to design and build its scooters and charging infrastructure locally. The auto player was the first one to introduce high performance intelligent vehicles in the market and is redefining consumers expectations of electric vehicles. Ather 450 and Ather Grid will be available in Chennai in June and will be followed by more cities in the coming year. Ather Energy will install 6500 charging points across the country and will be operational in 30 cities by 2023.

The prices for Ather S340 and Ather S450 are Rs. 1.09 lakh and Rs. 1.23 lakh, on-road Bangalore respectively. The two scooters come with similar parts and design and the major thing distinguishing them is the battery capacity and power rating. The Ather S340 comes with a battery pack giving it a range of 60 kms, and a motor rated for 5.8 Bhp and 14 Nm. The Ather S450 comes with a range of 75 kms and its motor is rated to produce 7.1 Bhp and 20.5 Nm. The two scooters also come with various modern features and cloud connectivity is one of them.
