The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter at Rs. 1 Lakh price is a direct rival of India's Ather 450.

The launch of the new Chetak was at Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom Pune and Bengaluru). The first all-electric scooter by the Indian company is one of 2020's most awaited releases and its bookings is open. The e-scooter is offered in two models-the Urbane base-spec and the Standard, costing Rs 1.15 lakh.

Optional metallic paint options are available for the Premium model, a dark / light tan seat, silver-colored wheels and a front disk brake. Whereas, the Urbane model lacks the metallic paint alternative and utilizes a front drum brake.

The e-scooter's first units will be deployed in Pune and Bengaluru–at least initially, before being made available in major metro stations such as Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. The Chetak is distributed by licensed KTM distributors. The booking process is fully digital and it opens on the company's website tomorrow at noon at the company's website at a reservation rate of Rs 2,000. The firm has set up 13 Bengaluru dealerships, and 4 Pune dealerships. Pune also has a customer center for consumers to sample and check the Chetak ride-but it won't be bought from there. Check-ride scooters are getting to retailers by the end of this month.

The new Chetak is controlled by an electric motor of 3.8kW/4.1kW (continuous / peak speed) which transmits power to the rear wheel through a special, automatic transmission. The company said that if necessary, its Intuitive Kick Down Mode will provide an additional power surge. This motor draws fuel from a lithium-ion battery pack, which promises to offer a true-world 95 km range in Eco Mode and 85 km in Sport mode.

The Ather 450 has a 3.3kW/5.4kW (continuous / peak power) engine for comparison, with a top speed of 80kph estimated. Based on the riding style the bike maker reports a range of 55-75 km. The torque on the Ather stands at 20.5Nm, compared to the new Chetak's 16Nm. Bajaj also provides a three-year/50,000kms warranty on the IP67-rated battery. The charging time on the Chetak is 100 percent an estimated 5hr and 25 percent an 1hr. The scooter will be paid and the assembly will be done at the customer's house by a qualified technician.

The Chetak e-scooter has been fitted by Bajaj with features such as the feather contact switchgear, full LED lighting and touchscreen display. On the mirror stalks, side stands and pillion foot pegs, the company has also used high-quality materials, further underlining its luxury role.

The Chetak will also come with a one-year free internet service plan that helps users to access the scooter's charging rate, distance and available range via the mobile phone app, even if you're not on your bike.

Ather's 450 and 450X will be the closest rivals to the Chetak-as the Ather is priced at Rs 1.14 lakh (on-road, Bengaluru).
