At the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, BMW will showcase its Concept Link scooter that’s created primarily for urban riding.
The concept is powered by a compact electric motor with large, flat batteries that are positioned under the floor. The bulk of the bike’s weight is positioned low down, giving it a unique appearance. The bike’s height is pretty low overall, making it that much easier to get on and off. The electric motor has more than enough power for zippy city commuting. The scooter also has a reverse gear, a seat that can be changed from sporty single to double, and comes with a large underseat storage space that’s you can open using hand gestures.
Like most concepts today, this scooter is part motorcycle and part communication device - It syncs with your online accounts, downloads your calendar, and recommends routes and music. There’s a heads-up display that projects the scooter’s speed, navigation and battery charge levels onto the windscreen, and this information also goes to a touch-sensitive panel that sits below the handlebars.
We can’t ascertain when BMW will take the Concept Link into production, but considering its invested heavily in its electric scooter range, we could see something sooner than we expected.
