India is making a leap in the pollution norms with the country moving towards stringent BS6 Emission Regulations. The transition from BS4 to BS6 happened in just a matter of over 3 years, making it one of the hardest decisions ever taken in relation to pollution norms anywhere in the world. Automobile manufacturers had to strive to launch their BS6 compliant vehicles before the inplementation of these regulations that should now come into effect from the 24th of April. The BS6 deadline was recently extended from 1 April 2020 by the Indian Supreme Court due to the on-going Coronavirus Pandemic. Federation Of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) moved the court seeking the extension of sale and purchase of BS4 vehicles in India. The nationwide lockdown has forced the temporary closure of dealerships and left the automobile firms with unsold BS4 inventory. According to media reports, unsold BS4 vehicles inventory could be over Rs 6,000 crore.
As per a recent Supreme court ruling, automotive brands will have 10 days past 3rd of May to sell their BS4 inventory. If the lockdown ends on 3rd, automobile dealers can sell their existing BS4 vehicles between 3rd - 13th of May 2020. Further, discounts are being offered on BS4 Vespa and Aprilla scooters in India right now.
To clear their existing BS4 models, Piaggio dealerships are offering a discount up to Rs 40,000 on BS4 Vespa and Aprilla Scooters. Discounts are not limited to BS4 models, some dealerships are offering Rs 25,000 discount on the new BS6 scooters also. There wouldn’t be a better time than now to buy an Aprilia or a Vespa scooter. Let us remind you that the BS6 compliant scooters are Rs 25,000 more expensive than the out going BS4 models.
Besides updating their product portfolio to BS6 Emission Standards, Piaggio also introduced two new models-Aprilia SR 125 Digi Console (with digital instrument cluster) and Vespa LX.
