Hyundai Casper - the all-new micro SUV - had its digital premiere in the production-ready avatar a couple of days back. Being the smallest SUV in the South-Korean brand's global portfolio, it is expected to enter series production next month. Initially, the Casper will go on sale in Korea and by early 2022, we might see it on the Indian roads too. Though, the all-new offering from Hyundai might get a different nameplate in India as told by the people closer to the development. Let's explore everything about Hyundai Casper in five quick points:
Hyundai has not yet released the official dimension figures of the Casper but multiple media reports confirm that it will measure 3,595mm in length, 1,595mm in width and 1,575mm in height. Underpinning the K1 architecture of the Santro, it will be quite shorter in length than the Venue which measures 3,995mm. Despite sitting on the K1 platform, it will be shorter and narrower than the Santro. For those asking, Hyundai Santro dimensionally is 3,610mm long, 1,645mm wide and 1,560mm high.
Hyundai Casper is presented in a boxy design. The front fascia, taking inspiration from new-age Hyundai SUVs, flaunts split LED headlamps while the LED DRLs are positioned above it in glossy black panel with the Hyundai emblem. The primary round-shaped headlamp units with LED rings are housed in the bumper. The most peculiar thing about the front end is the triangular motifs on the silver grille. The front grille is offered in two designs as the other one comes finished in gloss black color with circular motifs that resemble the round-shaped headlamps. The faux skid silver plate and flat bonnet are standard throughout the SUV. Needless to say, it also gets body cladding for a sporty appearance.
The wheel arches are heavily flared and squared-off while the shape of front and rear windows differ too. The A-pillar is blacked out while the B-Pillar is offered in body color. The door handles come integrated in the C-Pillar. Riding on dual-tone alloy wheels, Hyundai Casper also boasts of roof rails. The rear profile is presented in a dual-tone paint scheme with the upper profile getting a glossy black finish with triangular LED light motifs. The circular LED tail-lamp cluster is integrated in the bumper to match the placement of the headlamps. As evident, a faux silver skid plate is also here in the bumper.
Hyundai has not released any official interior images of the Casper as of now. However, multiple images have emerged on the internet which reveal that the micro SUV will come in a dual-tone upholstery. The white colored seats and adjustable headrests will be complimented by blue cushions. It will get a front and rear centre armrest with cup holders. The Casper has been presented as a 4-seater (2+2) micro SUV, confirm the leaked images on the web. The dashboard features a free standing touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility. Hyundai might also equip the India-spec version with BlueLink connected car technology with voice commands.
The Korean model will be powered by a 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine. The former will rake in 76 bhp of top power while the latter is expected to develop power output in excess of 100 bhp. The 1.0L turbo petrol unit already does duties to the Venue SUV in the Indian market. Both the engines are linked to a 4-speed automatic transmission as standard. Hyundai Casper in India could be offered with the Santro's 1.1L 4-cylinder motor or the GRand i10 Nios' 1.2L 4-cylinder mill with the lower variants while the Venue's 1.0L turbo petrol engine could only be available with the range-topping variants. A manual gearbox is also expected with the micro SUV.
Hyundai Casper will sit below the Venue in the company's portfolio in India and would be its entry-level offering in the country. Hence, it will directly rival Maruti Ignis and Tata Punch in the Indian market.
