Hyundai i20 N Line was launched on September 2, 2021 in the Indian market. Being the first ever high-performance N Line model in India, it was launched in a price range of Rs 9.84-11.75 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India). Now, we have learnt that the Hyundai i20 N Line has accounted for more than 10 percent of the overall sales of the hatchback in the last couple of months. In addition, Hyundai officials have confirmed that top-end variants of several products with premium features are witnessing a surge in sales in the country.
“Initially, we had estimated that the N Line will be 10 percent of the overall i20 volumes. As of now, it appears that it could be a bit more. Demand for higher trims is increasing and almost doubling in some cases. This is a very clear trend which is emerging. This means that customers don’t want to compromise on features” said Tarun Garg, director of sales, marketing and service, Hyundai Motor India. The demand for the i20's range-topping variant has accentuated from 18 percent in 2019 to 36 percent this year. In fact, over 50 percent buyers have prefered the top variant of the Creta while a whooping 92 percent customers chose the top variants in the Verna sedan. As per the company officials, one third of the buyers opted for variants which featured Sunroof and Bluelink Connected Car Tech.
“Demand for accessories is also going up, which means customers really want to have a car which is rich in everything,” stated Garg. The festive season onslaught has boosted the sales tremendously and hence, waiting period for several products has gone up. Further, the global shortage of semiconductors has added fuel to the fire as it has affected the production capacity. “inquiries are up 10 percent and retails are up 2 percent over 2019 figures. I think this is very significant because retails are up, despite stock levels being much lower than the normal level. We have less than one month of inventory at the dealership level, and there is hardly any inventory at the plant level,” concluded Garg. Hyundai is yet to deliver 95,000 vehicles to the buyers in the country.
