KTM Duke 125 has been very successful in the Indian market and has surpassed the company’s expectations, so much so that the company is now planning to launch the fully faired version of the successful bike in India. The new bike will follow the company’s naming pattern and will be called the KTM RC125. The bike will come with only design changes and will be mechanically identical to the naked street Duke 125. There are reports that peg the launch of the RC125 to the month of June.
As is common with other bikes with the RC tag, the new RC125 will also come with more aggressive riding stance and other stylistic changes. The other changes will include full faired body, clip-on handlebars, projector headlamps and a split seat design. The upcoming bike is likely to lock horns with the best selling Japanese bike Yamaha R15 that comes with similar styling and a very peppy engine. Yamaha R15 is priced in the range of Rs. 1.4 lakhs in the Indian market and one can expect the RC125 to undercut the Japanese bikes in the Indian market given the smaller displacement engine the bike will come with.
As already stated, the upcoming KTM RC125 will bear no mechanical changes when compared to the Duke 125. The new fully faired bike will come with a 125cc, liquid cooled, fuel injection, single-cylinder engine with twin overhead camshafts and a 4 valve head. The engine on Duke 125 is rated to deliver 14.3 Bhp and 12 Nm and is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. The new bike from KTM will also come with a USD fork at the front and a mono shocker at the rear and both the wheels of the bike will get a sic brake setup with single channel ABS being standard on the bike. The company already manufactures this bikes for export to international markets.
That the company is already manufacturing the bike in India, is perhaps the reason behind the quick launch in the Indian market. With some regulatory approvals in place, the bike should be ready for launch in India. Just like the route KTM took when launching the Duke 125 in India. Talking of the Duke 125, the sales have been very promising for the company. Given the fully faired bike RC125 will not find as many takers as the Duke 125 in the Indian market, the company hopes to poach Yamaha R15’s customers with their new offering. The new launch from KTM is in line with the brand’s strategy to introduce younger buyers to the KTM line-up and help them move up the model ladder of the company in India.
