Jaguar Land Rover India has officially started the bookings for its first plug-in-hybrid vehicle in India namely the Defender P400e. The new Land Rover Defender plug-in-hybrid is the most powerful and fuel-efficient derivative in the entire range of the SUV. It will be offered on the 110 body type and available in four variants namely SE, HSE, X-Dynamic HSE and X in India. Land Rover Defender P400e deliveries are expected to start from the first quarter of FY 2021-22, i.e. April 2021 across the nation.

Rohit Suri, President & Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India said, “We are extremely proud to introduce our first Plug-In Hybrid, the New Defender P400e in India, a vehicle that perfectly balances performance with efficiency, while retaining Land Rover’s legendary off-road capability. This also reaffirms our commitment to introduction of electrified vehicles across the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio, after we had opened bookings for Jaguar I-PACE in November 2020.” The Defender P400e will be powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine alongside a 19.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The battery will be mated to a 105 kW electric motor. The combined power output and torque performance will be 398bhp and 640Nm, respectively.

Land Rover Defender P400e will sprint to 100kmph from standstill in merely 5.6 seconds while clocking a top speed of 209kmph. As far as charging the battery is concerned, it can be charged using a charging cable supplied with the vehicle at home or office using a 15A socket. The luxury British marque is also offering a complimentary 7.4 kW AC wall box charger to the buyers for quickly charging the 19.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The price announcement for the company's first plug-in-hybrid SUV is expected to take place in the next couple of months. Jaguar Land Rover is shifting its focus on EVs in India as last year in November, it had opened the bookings for the Jaguar I-PACE.
