The bike will be sold as a CKD and the R and RS versions will launch later this year.

Triumph has introduced the first of three Street Triple variants, the Street Triple S, in India. The bike is priced at ₹8.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This motorcycle is the base variant of the 2017 Street Triple range, and is powered by the same 765cc, three-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine as the other variants in the line-up. This version though, makes 113hp at 11,250rpm and 73Nm at 9100rpm. The bike comes fitted with a slipper clutch, a ride-by-wire throttle with two riding modes, ABS and switchable traction control, upside-down separate function forks up front and a preload-adjustable monoshock round the back.

Vimal Sumbly, managing director of Triumph Motorcycles India, stated that the company aims to convert 90 percent of its line-up to CKDs. The Street Triple R and the RS will come here as CKDs too. The new Triumph will go head-to-head with the Kawasaki Z900 and the Ducati Monster 821. While the bike does make less power than its rivals, it’s power-to-weight ratio is significantly better and this bike is far more affordable too.
