2020 Hyundai i20 gets premium interior features; will be launched in India during this festive season

Hyundai Motor India will be launching the third generation of i20 hatchback anytime soon in the country. One of the company’s best sellers in India, the hatchback was globally showcased earlier this year in March. It has also been spotted doing test runs on Indian roads in the past on multiple occasions. The hatchback has already been launched in selected European countries. Along with this, the production has also started at the parent company's plant in Turkey. The production of the India-spec model is likely to start in the coming weeks. Ahead of the official India launch, a few snapshots of the new premium hyundai i20 gives us a fair idea of what the hatchback will look like both from exterior and interior.

Cosmetically, the new i20 is likely to adopt Hyundai’s new design language. Upfront, it gets a new cascading grille. In addition, it also caters to sleek angular headlamps. The rear end boasts of split z-shaped LED tail-lamps connected to each other with a light bar. On the sides, the hatchback seen here offers dual-tone alloy wheels. Other design highlights include a shark-fin antenna, blacked-out B-pillars, and sleek ORVMs.

The premium hatchback is expected to come loaded with a plethora of features. The cabin boasts of premium upholstery with ample of legroom space. Its feature highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fully digital instrument cluster, an 8-speaker sound system from BOSE, and wireless charging among many others. The upcoming i20 will also provide a flat-bottom steering wheel along with automatic climate controls and rear AC vents. Furthermore, it will get a SmartSense driving assist system, navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, intelligent speed limit information, and BlueLink telematics. The safety kit will comprise of dual airbags, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and ISOFIX child seat mounts among others.

Under the bonnet, the upcoming premium hatchback will get the same powertrain as the Hyundai Venue. It will get a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine followed by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel unit. Its price details have not been revealed yet. However, with these upgrades, it will be a little pricier over the current model. Once launched in India, the hatchback will rival the likes of Maruti Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Tata Altroz, and Honda Jazz in its segment.
