In a major development, Toyota is going to unveil the 2020 Fortuner facelift on June 4 in Thailand. The current generation SUV made its first appearance in 2015 and since then, it has been one of the top-selling SUVs. Since this is going to be a facelifted model, the changes will be limited. We know this through some spy shots that surfaced online sometime back.
The 2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift will be sporting the same silhouette design as the outgoing model but will come with a new front grille, redesigned bumper and sharper-looking full headlamps. In addition, there will be new fog lamp housings, revamped air dams, newly designed alloy wheels and restyled tail light cluster with a pronounced LED signature. We can say that the new Fortuner will look more aggressive in design compared to the current model.
Inside the cabin, the new 2020 Toyota Fortuner is expected to have a new infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. The infotainment unit will Support both Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The SUV will also feature a multi-zone climate control system while the electric sunroof could also be there.
Performance-wise, the 2020 Fortuner facelift is likely to get an update in power as far as diesel variants are concerned. The India-spec SUV is currently sold with a choice between BS6 compliant 2.7L petrol and 2.8L diesel engines. The petrol engine churns out 164 bhp of maximum power and 245 Nm of peak torque while the diesel motor delivers 174.5 bhp of maximum power and 420 Nm of peak torque. Both the petrol and diesel engines are available with a choice between manual and automatic gearboxes. Currently, a 6-speed manual as well as the torque converter automatic unit with 2 wheel drive is offered. There won’t be a four-wheel-drive option with the petrol variants in the new Toyota Fortuner facelift.
For safety features, Toyota Fortuner will come with seven airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and ISOFIX child mounts to name a few. It will compete with the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas, Isuzu MU-X and Skoda Kodiaq in the Indian market. The new SUV will be arriving in India by next year probably. The 2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift price is expected to be higher than the current-gen model which is priced between Rs 28.66-34.43 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi).
