VW Polo takes on the likes of Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno in India

The 2022 Volkswagen Polo facelift has been spotted testing in Europe ahead of its world premiere which is scheduled by the end of this year. It has been almost four years since the current model has been on sale in global markets. Therefore, the company is planning to introduce a mid-cycle facelifted version of the hatchback. For those asking, the India-spec Volkswagen Polo has been on sale for more than a decade without any substantial makeover. VW Polo takes on the likes of Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno in India.

Going by the spy-shots, the 2022 Volkswagen Polo seems to have borrowed headlamps and tail-lamps from the Mk8 Volkswagen Golf. In addition, one can notice restyled front and rear bumper alongside newly designed alloy wheels. Though, we do not have any image with us but the interior cabin is also expected to come with subtle updates. The biggest change that the 2022 Polo facelift would witness is in the form of a mild hybrid powertrain. It is expected to be powered by an eTSI petro-electric mild hybrid system. Presently, the German automaker has two petrol electric hybrid powertrains namely 1.0L eTSI with 108bhp power & 200Nm torque and 1.5L eTSI with power output and torque performance in two tunes: 129bhp & 200Nm and 147bhp and 250Nm.

As far as reports are to be believed, Volkswagen could bring the next-gen Polo to the Indian shores by mid 2022. Though, details are very scarce at the moment but in the coming months, we will get to know more about it. Meanwhile, in other news, Volkswagen is gearing up for the launch of the all-new Taigun SUV which happens to be the first company product to be based on the VW Group's MQB A0 IN architecture in the Indian market. The brand has started teasing the crossover on its various social media handles and going by the teasers, it appears to have borrowed its styling cues from the international-spec Volkswagen T-Cross, albeit with bigger size and dimensions.
