In a piece of major news, Ather Energy announced that the deliveries of the Ather 450X are on track as they start from November 2020 in a phased manner with Bangalore and Chennai receiving the first lot of scooters. By the first quarter of 2021, one of the quickest scooters in the 125 cc segment will be seen in the rest of the Indian cities. To promote their flagship scooter, Ather will be beginning a promotional campaign as well as starting test rides from October across India.
World EV day is on 9th September and we are seeing a rise in adoption of electric-powered vehicles. The biggest roadblock in EV success is the lack of proper infrastructure for charging. Ather understands it perfectly and is setting up a fast-charging network Ather Grid in the ten cities before the deliveries begin. The Indian manufacturer plans to set-up 10-15 charging outlets in every city in Phase 1.
Tarun Mehta, Co-founder & CEO, Ather Energy said “The pandemic did disrupt our timelines by a few months, but we have been able to get back on track with our plans. We used the time to refine our expansion plan and get the ball rolling on our go-to-market strategy. We have also been working very actively with our supplier partners to ensure minimal disruption in the supply chain. The excitement and the wait have been too long now we can’t wait to get started. We will soon share more information on our dealer network and Ather Grid points across each city. The demand has been phenomenal, and we are sure with different ownership and purchase models that we will introduce, it will help consumers make the shift to electric with ease. Exciting times ahead.”
In the 450X, the 7-inch touchscreen comes with e-sim for improved connectivity, Bluetooth and WiFi compatibility. In addition, there is an Android-based OS for the dashboard supporting Google Maps and Spotify music. The scooter comes with a non-removable 2.9kWh unit. In slow-charging mode, the battery goes from 0-80 per cent in 3.25 hours and in an hour if one opts for fast-charging mode. The 450X will deliver 27Nm of peak torque and go from 0-60 kmph in just 6.5 seconds.
