The Auto Expo 2022 has been delayed till further notice to ensure the safety of exhibitors and visitors

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has officially postponed the Auto Expo- The Motor Show 2022. One of India’s largest automotive events was earlier scheduled to be held between February 2-9, 2022 in Greater Noida. This decision has been made in light of the increasing number of Covid’19 cases across the country. As for the new dates, they will be finalized later this year considering the Covid’19 situation at that time. Along with this, SIAM will also make sure to finalize the dates in alignment with the OICA calendar of global auto shows.

The biennial event takes place in February of every alternate year. Auto Expo basically provides a platform for all the OEMs to showcase their new products and technologies. A large number of people participate in the event. The last edition of the event held back in 2020 saw footfalls of over 6 lakh people during the week-long affair.

"Safety of exhibitors, visitors, and all stakeholders involved and present at the Expo is the topmost priority for SIAM," he said in a statement issued to the press. "It is in this context that the Indian Automobile Industry and SIAM recognize the inherent risks in organizing the Auto Expo due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the apprehensions of a possible third wave. The magnitude of the risk of spread of infection is extremely high in a B2C show like Auto Expo which is visited by large crowds and maintaining social distance would be difficult. It has therefore been decided to postpone the Auto Expo – The Motor Show for now," as commented by Rajesh Menon, Director-General, SIAM.

As per SIAM, the chances of the spread of Covid’19 infection is extremely high in a B2C event like Auto Expo where we typically get to see large crowds. Moreover, maintaining social distancing would be difficult in such scenarios. Furthermore, the safety of all the exhibitors, participants, and other stakeholders is way more important than anything.
