Benelli Imperiale 400 BS6 is finally launched in the Indian market at an introductory price of Rs 1.99 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom, India). The BS6 compliant version is priced Rs 20,000 more than the outgoing BS4 model. The company is currently accepting bookings at a token amount of Rs 6,000 for the BS6 Imperiale 400 with deliveries expected to begin from the first week of August. The Benelli Imperiale 400 arrived in the Indian market in 2019 while it competes against the likes of Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Jawa models. Surprisingly, the motorcycle didn’t receive the BS6 updates until now while its competitors got BS6 engines a long time back.
The Benelli Imperiale 400 arrived a year back and is a relatively new model. Apart from the BS6 upgraded engine, we don’t see many updates in the motorcycle. It comes in 3 colour schemes - Red, Black and Silver. The 2020 Benelli Imperiale 400 in Red and the Black colours is priced at Rs Rs 2,10,900 which is a premium of Rs Rs 21,401 over the outdated BS4 model. If we compare the introductory price at the time of Benelli Imperiale 400 launch last year and the new 2020 model, the BS6 version is expensive by Rs 30,000-Rs 40,000. All prices are Ex-Showroom, India.
The bike weight remains the same at 205kgs which is commendable considering there is the addition of new components. The BS6 Imperiale 400 holds on to the modern classic designs of the outgoing BS4 model. Key highlights are round front headlight, Chrome inserts, teardrop-shaped fuel tank and asymmetrically shaped thin-film-transistor LCD cluster.
The BS6 compliant 374cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-valves/cylinder, SOHC engine now comes equipped with a large catalytic converter and O2 sensor to meet the new stringent BS6 requirements. No increase in power with 2020 Benelli Imperiale 400 as it delivers the same 20.7bhp of power and 29Nm of torque. The important point is that the power is delivered 500rpm higher than before and the peak torque kicks in at 1000rpms earlier, at a comfortable 3500rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Fuel tank capacity is 12 litres.
