A 50-year-old woman travelled 1400 kms on her Honda Scooty to pick-up her stranded son.

When Amitabh Bacchan in Deewar Movie said “ I have maa”, it became an immortal line in the history of Indian cinema. Mother’s love for her children is second to none and Razia Begum, a government teacher in Bodhan town of Nizamabad district showed just that. She rode her Honda Scooty for over 1400 Kms to bring back her son stuck in Nellore District in Andhra Pradesh. Razia’s younger son Nizamuddin had gone to Rahamatabad in Nellore on March 12 to drop his friend whose father was admitted in the hospital. With Coronavirus picking up momentum the same time around, the Indian Government announced a lockdown across the country forcing Nizamuddin to stay back in Nellore.

Razia Begum (48) began her journey on Monday and reached her destination on Wednesday evening. She travelled deserted roads and jungles but nothing deterred her motherly resolve to bring her son back. She couldn’t send her elder son to pick him because she was scared that the police might mistake him for having a joyride. She had the permission from Bodhan ACP Jayapal Reddy which helped her to take this tough journey.

"It was a difficult journey on a small two-wheeler for a woman. But the determination to bring my son back overtook all my fears. I packed Rotis and they kept me going. It was fearsome in the nights with no traffic movement and no people on roads," Ms Begum told PTI on Thursday.
