The S201 SUV will be launched in India later this year.

Mahindra is working on a direct rival to the popular Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon which will hit showrooms next year.

The S201 is Mahindra’s version of the Tivoli but will get different front and rear styling. The Mahindra version will also get more ground clearance and use chunkier tyres. The S201 will be sold in two forms – a five-seater, sub-four-metre compact SUV and a larger seven-seat SUV.

The smaller version will take on the likes of the Ford EcoSport, the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon, while the bigger car will compete with the Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta. The sub-four-metre version will be sold first. The car will be powered by a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which is essentially the same G80 1.2-litre, three-cylinder unit from KUV100 NXT, but with major upgrades

The smaller version could be called the 'XUV300'. The S201 is currently being tested and will go on sale next year and you can expect Mahindra to pack it with tech.
