Ducati Desert X will be positioned in the middleweight adventure segment

Ducati has announced the world premiere of the 2021 Desert X on December 9. Debuting in 'Concept' form with styling cues borrowed from the Scrambler 1100 nearly a couple of years back at EICMA 2019, Ducati Desert X has been teased by the brand on its various social media platforms in a production-ready avatar. The motorcycle will be positioned in the middleweight adventure segment while the neo-retro styling takes inspiration from the classic Dakar bikes. Ducati Desert X is expected to launch in the second half of next year in the Indian market.

Ducati already has the Multistrada in the adventure motorcycle segment yet it is introducing another bike in the same segment. The reason behind this is pretty obvious because the Multistrada is an adventure tourer with 19-inch and 17-inch wheels but on the other hand, the Desert X is going to be a hardcore off-roader. It will ride on 21-inch and 18-inch spoke wheels which will be shod with off-road focused tyres. Ducati Desert X will also get a detachable pillion seat with dual fuel tanks as standard. The front fascia will flaunt round headlamps with LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) as it will carry forward neo-retro styling of the Dakar bikes of the era of mid 80s.

Mechanically, Ducati Desert X will be powered by a 937cc Testastretta liquid-cooled L-twin engine which we have already seen in several other brand products such as the Monster, Multistrada 950, SuperSport 950 and Hypermotard 950. It is expected to produce maximum power output of 110 bhp and peak torque performance of 95 Nm. The Concept version was equipped with a 1079cc air-cooled engine, sourced from the Scrambler 1100. We expect more information regarding the bike in public domain in the coming days as we inch closer to the official premiere.
