Force Motors is planning to launch the Gurkha in May this year. The news has been confirmed by an authorized dealer in Coimbatore. The company had unveiled the SUV at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020. It had earlier planned to launch the vehicle last year itself but due to the pandemic, the launch got delayed. The SUV has been spotted doing test runs on multiple occasions in the past.
In terms of design, the upcoming Gurkha will feature LED DRLs surrounding the main circular headlamps upfront. In addition, it will also get a single-slat grille, fender-mounted indicators, fog lamps among others. On the sides, it will feature 16-inch alloy wheels. Other design bits include a snorkel mounted on the right fender, a roof carrier, and tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
As of now, we have no details regarding the interiors of the 2021 Gurkha. The model that was on display at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020, sported a dual-tone colour scheme of black and brown. The company will equip the SUV with a plethora of features like a touchscreen infotainment system, front-powered windows, automatic climate control, manual air-conditioning, remote locking among many others. Talking about the seating configuration, it will offer two-rows of front-facing seats and two side-facing jump seats in the third row.
The 2021 Force Gurkha will come with an advanced set of safety features that complies with the new safety standards made mandatory from October 2019. It will now get features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors among many. The off-roader will also provide an updated chassis and body-shell for better occupant protection.
Mechanical details of the upcoming Gurkha have not been revealed yet. However, we can expect it to be powered by a BS6-compliant 2.6-litre diesel engine that develops 89 bhp power and 260 Nm torque while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It could also get a new Mercedes Benz-sourced 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates 138 bhp power and 321 Nm torque at a later stage. Besides these, we can also expect the SUV to get 4x4 capabilities and manual differential locks.
