After teasing for years, Honda had finally launched CB 300R in India last February.

After a long period of waiting, Honda finally heard the fans and recently launched the CB 300R naked street motorcycle. In order to make the public aware of their recent offering in the entry-level sports naked segment, the company has now come-up with a television advert that the Japanese maker has been running in the country.

The Japanese company has priced the Honda CB 300R at Rs. 2.41 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. This has kind of discouraged the customers a bit as the bike is not in the same league as the KTM Duke 390 (another naked sport that has oodles of performance) but almost matches the Austrian bike in terms of pricing. Not just the KTM, even the homebred TVS Apache RR 310 offers comparative performance as the CB 300R, and is not only cheaper but is also fully faired. Perhaps the explanation for the sore point of Honda’s latest offering is that it is imported in India as a Completely Knocked Down kit and assembled here, hence, the taxes on the naked sport are very high when compared to the other bikes that are manufactured here. Now, were the Japanese brand to fully manufacture the bike in India, it prices would come down by a fair margin and this could become a good seller. However, the present low sales of the bike may not inspire the company to produce it locally.

To let you know, when Honda launched the CB 300R in India, the company had received a positive response from the market. The advance booking schedule states the bike has been sold out till the middle months of 2019. However, what remains to be seen is that whether the naked sport bike sees the same kind of demand once the bookings for the same are reopened later this year. As the readers may be aware that Honda sells its premium sports bikes through only 22 dealerships all over India, the brand is giving the same treatment to the CB 300R as the naked sports bike is being sold through these 22 dealerships only. Perhaps, this signifies that the Japanese bike maker is aiming to instill a premium feel in the CB 300R customers via the dealership and service experience.

As far as the naked sports bike is concerned, it is based on the brand’s fully-faired and ageing CBR 250R. Apart from the same frame in the two bikes, there is a vast sea of changes as far as the mechanicals are concerned. The engine of Honda CB 300R has a displacement of 286cc and this liquid cooled unit now produces 31 Bhp and 27.5 Nm. This engine has been mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The front of the naked sports has upside down forks whereas the rear comes equipped with a 7-step adjust monoshocker. As far as safety is concerned, the bike has dual channel ABS as standard and both the alloy wheels of the bole are adorned by petal disc brakes equipped with Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to optimize the braking on the bike. Talking of the features, the bike has an all-digital instrument cluster and a full-LED headlamp setup.

The Honda CB 300R gets a pretty relaxed riding positon that makes it appropriate for daily usage and the performance if the bike also makes it good for longer runs.
