Honda to launch the City hybrid first followed by the HR-V hybrid this year.

Honda is likely to launch the City hybrid and HR-V hybrid in the Indian market sometimes later this year. The Japanese automaker might launch the Honda City hybrid around May or June 2021. Talking about the price, we can expect it to fall in the range of Rs 15 lakhs - Rs 18 lakhs (ex-showroom). The sedan made its global debut last year.

The City hybrid houses a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine and two electric motors under the bonnet. The petrol unit churns out 97 bhp power and 127 Nm peak torque. Talking about the two electric motors, one of them is integrated into the petrol engine. It acts as an integrated starter generator (ISG).

The other electric motor powers the front wheels through a single fixed-ratio gearbox wherein it produces 108 bhp power and 253 Nm peak torque. Besides these, the model will come equipped with three driving modes which will further help it to run on petrol, hybrid or full-electric power.

The second product from Honda that we can expect to create a buzz in the Indian market is the third-generation HR-V hybrid. It is likely to be launched post the festive season this year in the domestic market. Besides these, the SUV will be positioned as a premium offering. The SUV was globally unveiled last month and is likely to go on sale in a few international markets anytime soon.

The new-gen HR-V, in the global market, comes packed with a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that further consists of a 1.5-litre petrol engine, a lithium-ion battery, two electric motors, along with a fixed-gear transmission. The 1.5-litre petrol unit is mated to a CVT gearbox. Out of the two electric motors, one is linked to the engine to generate electricity while the other is used to power the wheels.
