Jawa boosts motorcycle production to ensure faster deliveries.

Classic Legends, the company credited with revival of Jawa motorcycles in India, is in the process of making arrangements to accelerate production of 42 and Classic 300 models. Talking to media at an event recently, Classic Legends CEO Ashish Joshi confirmed that they are in talks with suppliers to boost production and everyone who booked these motorcycles online will receive their orders by September 2019. Hence, the suppliers are expected to increase production of both these Jawa motorcycles in the coming days.

The Hindu Business Line caught up with the CEO and here is what he had to say on reported delays in deliveries: 

Currently, if someone has booked Jawa at a showroom, they will be told that there would be a 9-10 month-long waiting period. There is a lot of effort going behind ramping-up production with suppliers and that is showing us very positive results. We are overwhelmed by the response and we have now come to terms with this kind of response and worked very hard towards the ramp up. I think over the next few months, people will start realizing that there is a steady stream of motorcycles coming through and that people are getting their machines. With about 2,500 components in the bike and over 700 suppliers supplying them, we are only as strong as that. It is not about building up your capacity, but it’s about building up supplier capacity as well. And here we are, with a resurrected brand, a completely new motorcycle with a completely new set of suppliers supplying it to us. It takes a little while to get everything up to scale.

As you know, Jawa 42 is the company's entry-level motorcycle and priced at Rs. 1.55 lakhs. It retains the retro design of the old motorcycle. On the other hand, Jawa Classic is a more retro version of 42 and shares its mechanicals with the former. However, it has been priced slightly higher at Rs. 1.64 lakhs. What is interesting is that both these Jawa motorcycles use the reengineered Mahindra Mojo 293-cc four-stroke, single-cylinder engine that generates 27 Bhp power 28 Nm torque. Besides, this engine in new Jawa motorcycles also comes with fuel injection, liquid-cooling, four-valve head, twin-exhaust ports, and twin camshafts.

Another good news for Jawa enthusiasts is that by the end of this year, the company will begin taking bookings for Perak, which is a Bobber based on same platform. Jawa Perak will cost around Rs. 1.89 lakhs. This makes it the least-priced Bobber motorcycle on sale in India. Perak will feature a big bore version of the 293-cc engine. This would be a 334-cc engine that produces 31 Bhp power and 32 Nm torque. A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard. The Jawa motorcycles unveiled by the company at present get single-channel ABS but the company claims that dual-channel ABS will also be offered from June.
