Kia Motors has listed the Sonet on its official website thereby confirming the World Premeir of the SUV on August 7, 2020. This SUV was showcased as a Concept at the Auto Expo this year. Over the months, multiple spy shots of the vehicle have been shared online. We also saw that the company released a video teasing the rear profile of the SUV. Apart from this, a couple of days ago the spy images of the interiors concerning the GT Line variant were revealed online. Further, a Youtube channel named PeeCee recently shared a video of the All-New Kia Sonet in a punchy orange colour doing the test run. The test mule that was spied was under temporary camouflage.
In terms of design, the front fascia of the Sonet will feature the signature Kia 'Tiger Nose' grille with LED headlamps and DRLs. The rear end will get a dual-pod LED tail-lamp cluster along with a reflector strip. At the sides, the SUV will get 18-inch alloy wheels. The cabin of Kia Sonet will stand to provide a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with UVO Connected Car Technology which will be borrowed from the Seltos. Other notable features will include a Bose sound system, cruise control, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and a panoramic sunroof.
Mechanically, Kia Sonet will draw power from three engine options. The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.2-litre engine linked to a manual gearbox as standard. The engine will deliver 82 bhp power and 114 Nm torque. There is also a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will churn out 118 bhp power and 172 Nm of torque. This engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard along with a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission. While the diesel variant will be propelled by a 1.5-litre oil mill that will produce 99 bhp of power output with 240 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Once launched, the upcoming SUV will compete against the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport, and Tata Nexon in the Indian market. The All-New Kia Sonet is likely to fall in the price bracket of Rs 7 lakhs - Rs 12 lakhs (ex-showroom).
