KTM Motorcycles will be bringing the Duke 790 to India. While an exact launch date hasn't been given, the bike is expected to be launched by March 2019. The Duke 790 will be the pinnacle of the naked series of bikes sold by KTM, with the more powerful 1290 Super Duke being marketed as a Sports Tourer. It carries forward the Duke ethos with the same naked design and lighter body.
It comes with the all new LC8 (abbreviation for liquid cooled 8 valve) 799cc parallel-twin engine that makes 105 BHP at 9000 RPM and 87 Nm of torque at 8000 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and also comes with a bi-directional Quickshifter which should speed up gear shifts. Standard features include an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) paired to the traction control, cornering ABS and launch control. It has a very edgy aggressive design with split full LED headlamps that include LED DRLs.
The Duke 790 was designed with agility and cornering capability in mind. The chassis uses a tubular steel frame that makes it as rigid and compact as possible for sharper turn-in. This also translates to a lower dry weight of just 169 kgs. This combined with the powerful LC8 engine propels this motorcycle to 100 km/hr in just 3.1 seconds. This bike will probably be imported to India as a CKD kit and assembled at the KTM-Bajaj plant in Chakan, Pune. Pricing has not been specified, but it is expected to cost less than Rs. 9 lakhs.
