The company is investing in the development of new mobility solutions for our market.

The all-electric scooter is based on the Gusto’s platform. The company has decided that rather than developing an all-new platform, engineers are working on electrifying an existing scooter.

Anand Mahindra, chairman, Mahindra Group, while visiting the two-wheeler R&D facility in Pune tweeted saying, “A peek at the electric variant under development.” The same facility is being used to also revive the Jawa brand.

Thanks to the government’s push for electric mobility, many two-wheeler OEMs are vying for the electric market. Bangalore-based start-up, Ather Energy, is readying the country’s first smart electric scooter, the S340. Manufacturing will commence from December 2017-January 2018. The company has received strategic investments worth ₹205 crore from Hero MotoCorp in October 2016.

Bajaj Auto has also commenced development of electric vehicles by introducing its first battery-powered three-wheeler under the Urbanite brand. The company wants to be ‘the Tesla of the two-wheeler space.’ Pune-based start-up, Tork Motorcycles, is also readying its battery-powered motorcycle, called the T6X. And, even TVS Motors is also testing its own electric scooter for launch in 2018.
