Mahindra XUV900 to be the homegrown automaker’s first four-door SUV-Coupe

Mahindra & Mahindra has been working on a slew of new products lately. The homegrown automaker is focusing on “unmissable SUVs” that will combine performance, design, and road presence. Under this new strategy, the brand is planning to launch SUV-coupe body style vehicles in the Indian market.

As per the media reports, Mahindra has given a green signal to the first-ever SUV-Coupe codenamed W620. However, the automaker is yet to confirm it officially. The production name of the vehicle is likely to be called XUV900. It was previewed as the XUV Aero concept at the Auto Expo in 2016. The concept resembled the outgoing XUV500. In 2016, a lot of buzz was created about this concept by the automaker. However, the XUV Aero concept was not launched in the market. Then again in 2017, there were reports claiming that Mahindra has given green signal to XUV Aero. The production was also set to begin soon. But neither the vehicle was launched nor any test mules were spotted. Coming back to XUV900, we can expect the four-door SUV-coupe to share its mechanical bits with XUV700. Besides this, features like front fenders and front doors could also be shared. The upcoming XUV900 might also feature a conventional front-hinged door setup. Moving inside the cabin, the dashboard design and front seats are likely to be carried over from the XUV700. It will be offered in a five-seat configuration. Since it will be positioned above XUV700, we can expect it to get a more premium cabin and features.

Performance-wise, the 2.0-litre mStallion petrol and 2.2-litre diesel mHawk engines from the XUV700 are expected to be carried forward. Transmission options will include the same 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. Talking about the launch, it is unlikely that the XUV900 will hit the showroom before 2024.
