Maruti says it is still testing the waters with its new engine.

Maruti's Dzire has the same underpinnings as the Baleno, so it was speculated that a much more powerful version of the compact sedan, with the recently introduced 102hp, 1.0-litre Boosterjet from the Baleno RS, could be introduced. The carmaker, however, has stated that it is still testing waters with this new engine. The Baleno RS has been selling in the region of 800-1,000 units per month since its launch.

According to the carmaker, buyers don't want sporty sedans and would rather buy sporty hatchbacks instead. The 1.0-litre Boosterjet is only available in the Baleno RS for now. So, while the Dzire may not get the RS moniker, the good news is that the next-gen Swift could and it will feature an iteration of this engine.

The new Dzire is currently on sale with a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. Prices range from ₹5.45 lakh for the entry-level petrol to ₹9.41 lakh for the top-trim diesel automatic.
