The car will plug a gap in the carmaker’s GT range.

The company intends to plug a gap in its sports car line-up. It showed the new GT S Roadster, which is powered by a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 that makes 522hp and 670Nm. This new convertible GT S sits between its two siblings – the entry-level 476hp GT Roadster and the 557hp GT C Roadster. The car promises to hit 100kph in 3.8sec and can go on to hit a top speed of 307kph.

The GT S engine sends power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The car also comes with a standard sports exhaust and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential that isn't offered on the lower-end GT. You also get adaptive dampers, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear alloy wheels.

What you also get is an AMG Dynamic Plus package, which includes a firmer suspension, active engine mount and quicker-responding steering. The pack adds Nappa leather and Dinamica upholstery on the inside. Pricing for the supercar will be announced with its launch in July.
