MG Motor will enter the Indian market by launching their C-segment SUV in the second quarter of 2019 and a year after that in 2020 the automaker will launch an electric vehicle which will be made in India, though some of the EV components will be imported.
The battery cell will be imported from China but the assembly will be done locally. SAIC has tied-up with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. to assemble the cells. The company will source the non-EV components locally to keep the costs down.
The MG electric SUV is expected to get a 48 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which is capable enough to produce more than 100 HP. The electric SUV is expected to go on sale by late 2020. Roewe cars could be launched in India under the MG brand name.
