Automobile Industry focus towards electric vehicles is well documented with a series of unveilings and showcases in recent years. It’s not just the four-wheelers breaking the stereotype, now motorcycle firms are moving towards electric bikes and scooters. Kawasaki motorcycles are rumoured to be working on an electric motorcycles and the recent released videos seem to confirm precisely that. A number of short videos offer an insight into what Kawasaki is trying to achieve with the electric motorcycle. The electric two-wheeler with sub-30bhp output and a 4-speed manual gearbox is nothing extraordinary but unexpected in an electric bike. It has a got a name too, Kawasaki has named the electric motorcycle as Endeavour.
The motorcycle gets inspiration from other models in Kawasaki product portfolio, Z400 and Z650 contribute parts to the Endeavour. It body fairing is a blend of Ninja 400 and the Ninja 1000SX. As we have seen already in other electric two wheelers, space, where the engine used to be, is now occupied by the battery. Electronic components and charging system sit on top of the battery. The motor will generate a reported 26 bhp with the frame being quite similar to that of the naked Z650 motorcycle according to a report in Visordown. There could be a possibility of all LED lighting and a colour TFT screen on the Endeavour but all we can do is wait for the official confirmation from the Japanese Motorcycle manufacturer.
Endeavour is different from other electric motorcycle as it offers a chain driver over the commonly used belt driver. It features a nmanual 4 -speed gearbox instead of a 6-speed transmission seen on other motorcycles. In the pics released so far, there is no clutch visible on the Kawasaki Endeavour. If we are to take a guess, then it could possibly come equipped with a quick shifter. As of now, there is no information on the trims or the launch date. More will become clearer in the coming days. EICMA Motor Show could play host to Kawasaki Endeavour Electric Motorcycle if Coronavirus situation normalizes.
