MG Motors launched its first product, Hector in the Indian market on the 27th of June 2019. To celebrate the Hector SUV’s first birthday, the company has released a video thanking its customers and celebrating their immense love. The British Marquee has gained widespread popularity across the country in a very short period of time. The Hector SUV managed to cross 50,000 units of bookings, right after 8 months of its launch. Also, during the same period, the company sold 20,000 units of Hector. The sales numbers were affected due to the production capacity limitation at its Halol plant in Gujarat. Despite this, the SUV still managed to garner a good number of customers.
Talking about the SUV, MG Hector was launched in the price bracket of Rs 12.48 lakhs to Rs 17.28 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India. Available in four trims namely Style, Super, Smart, and Sharp, the SUV managed to garner over 28,000 bookings within six weeks of its launch. Mechanically, it was offered with two engine options. A 1.2-litre petrol engine that churned out 143 bhp power output and 250 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox alongside a 6-speed DCT as an option. There was also a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produced 170 bhp of maximum power output with 350 Nm of torque. This particular engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The petrol variant also gets a 48 V mild hybrid system as an option.
In April 2020, the diesel variant was upgraded to meet the BS6 norms. Price was also increased in the process. The BS6 MG Hector diesel SUV is now available in the price range of Rs 13.88 lakhs - Rs 17.73 lakhs (ex-showroom). Dubbed as India’s first internet car, the SUV comes with 19 Exclusive and more than 50 Connected Features. Apart from the BS6 update, no other changes have been made to the SUV. Also, MG Motor India is now planning to launch the Hector Plus SUV in the country by next week. The SUV will be bigger in size with an aim to accommodate a third-row of the seats.
