Facelift Kia Stinger comes with a new engine and a range of feature upgrades

Kia Motors unveiled a new updated Stinger with a host of features, design and performance updates. The facelift Kia Stinger was revealed in South Korea recently and marks an improvement over its predecessor. Kia Stinger first arrived in the markets way back in 2017 and it was high time for a midlife update. The South Korean automaker has given a premium feel to the facelifted sedan with the addition of high-quality components for the interior and customisation options for the buyers. The sale is expected to begin in South Korea by the third quarter of 2020 with international sales beginning by the year-end. India launch is still not disclosed so far but considering the rousing success of Sonet and Seltos, Kia could launch the sedan next year in the country.

Talking about the design updates, updated Kia Stinger retains the trademark tiger-nose grille. The grille is housed between new LED headlights that are darker in the state of being off. The LED headlights also come with a new pair of daytime running lights (DRLs). At the rear, the sedan sports a new diffuser, quad exhausts pipes and revamped tail lights with new LED signature pattern.

The interior comes with plenty of updates in the cabin. The biggest news is a new 8.0-inch touchscreen display with a narrow-bezel design replacing the older 7.0-inch system. The automaker will also offer an optional new 10.25-inch touchscreen display in some of the international markets. The massive infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with a voice control system for controlling heating and ventilation, audio and navigation. Kia has gone full-throttle on the features this time by offering two instrument cluster options. A new larger 4.2-inch color-TFT LCD cluster, delivering improved visibility and displaying information to the driver. There is a fully-digital, high-resolution 7.0-inch ‘Supervision’ unit as well with a full-colour display with graphics for different driving modes.

The biggest takeaway from the new Kia Stinger is the addition of a new engine. The new ‘Smartstream’ 2.5-liter T-GDi petrol (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) engine delivering massive 304 bhp of power with the torque comfortable reaching a peak of 422 Nm. The twin-turbo 3.3-litre T-GDi V6 from Kia’s ‘Lambda’ engine family is retained with the addition of a new Electronic Variable Exhaust Valve system. The engine belts out 368 bhp of power and 510 Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder ‘Theta’ engine remains unchanged producing 252 bhp power and 353 Nm torque. All the engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Thomas Schemera, Head of Product Division at Hyundai Motor Group said in a  statement “The Stinger remains the standard-bearer for the Kia brand, almost a decade after we first revealed the Kia GT Concept in 2011. It remains our most driver-focused car, and is capable of covering great distances in comfort and style,”. Further, Thomas added, “The upgraded model builds on the Stinger’s well-established grand touring ethos, with a renewed sense of design flair, new powertrains and technologies, and greater usability enhancing its appeal for buyers in markets around the world.”
