Japanese carmaker, Nissan has revealed its all-electric concept SUV. Called the IMx, it has autonomous capabilities and will go on sale in International markets soon. The car borrows a lot from the new Leaf in terms of design.
The concept displayed at Tokyo is powered by two electric motors with a total output of 429hp and 700Nm of torque. The power is sent to all-four-wheels adding to its SUV character. The concept shares the battery pack with the Leaf however, in the IMx the range is increased to a claimed 600km.
Nissan claims that the new EV powertrain will change the SUV segment. The company says that this SUV will not face a big negative of having a high centre of gravity. Since the battery is placed under the floor, the car benefits from a low centre of gravity which in turn will improve the handling.
This concept also features Nissan’s Next-Gen semi-autonomous Propilot system. When activated, the steering wheel retracts back into the dashboard and the seats recline to improve comfort levels. On the inside, the interiors are simple with large amounts of light wood and a wide infotainment display.
Nissan had suggested that it would launch a variety of EVs. Which means this Leaf-like SUV could be on its way to the international market soon.
