Renault Kiger Enters Mass Production at Chennai Facility

Dealer dispatch of Renault Kiger to over 500 company dealerships has also begun

Renault Kiger has entered into mass production at the company's manufacturing unit in Chennai, India. The French brand has begun the dealer dispatch of the subcompact SUV to more than 500 dealerships across the country. The Kiger follows the path of Kwid and Triber, which is that it will be launched in the Indian market first, followed by other global markets. The first unit was rolled out of assembly line by Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO & Managing Director – Renault India Operations, Biju Balendran, Managing Director & CEO – RNAIPL, Krishnan Sundararajan, Managing Director – RNTBCI and Silvio Roca, DMD - RNAIPL.




Renault India held the global premiere of  Renault Kiger on January 28, 2021 in India. The commencement of series production indicates that it will go on sale in the country this month itself with the bookings starting in the next few days. Renault Kiger is based on the CMF-A+ platform while styling elements include LED headlamps with LED DRLs, a huge 'wing' front grille, flared wheel arches, 16-inch black diamond cut alloy wheels and double C-shaped LED tail-lamps. It will be equipped with a plethora of upmarket features in the form of multi drive modes, automatic AC, PM2.5 clean air filter, white ambient lighting, Arkamys 3D Sound system with eight speakers and an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & voice commands.

Its top-end variants will come loaded with class leading safety features such as 4-airbags, seat belt reminder alert, ABS, three-point seatbelts for front and rear seats, and a reverse parking camera. Mechanically, Renault Kiger will get four powertrain-transmission combinations. The base variants will draw power from a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre ENERGY engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while a 5-speed AMT unit will be available as an option. On the other hand, the range-topping variants will have a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine at the helm of affairs. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a X-TRONIC CVT automatic transmission. Renault Kiger price is expected to start from Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom), given the high level of localization.
