Royal Enfield 500cc bikes models Classic, Thunderbird and Bullet will no longer be on sale from April 2020 due to high up-gradation cost to BS6, 500cc bikes seems unviable for production.

At the moment the Indian industry is undergoing a big shift as automakers are on an updation spree of their automobiles before the implementation of the new BSVI emission norms takes into effect from April 2020.

Most of the manufacturers are putting their low-selling models on halt as the upgradation to BSVI norms is quite costly. One of the manufacturers is the famed Royal Enfield who have decided to pull plug from its 500cc bike models. Royal Enfield will continue to make its 500-cc offering which includes The Classic, Thunderbird and Bullet series.

The company believes that the upgradation of its low selling 500cc models wouldn’t fetch much profit thus making the updating process unviable. But the bike maker will upgrade its highly in demand 350cc models to the latest BSVI emission norms.

Currently, the existing 350cc and 500cc engines use push rod architecture that do not meet the emission norms.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 specifications:

This bike is powered by 346 cc air cooled engine that produces 19.8bhp of power and 28Nm of torque. The engine is mated to 5-speed gearbox. The bikes run on 19 inch front wheel and 18-inch rear wheels. The bike comes with single as well as dual-channel ABS as option.

The Royal Enfield makes following bikes in the 350cc category.

When it comes to export, Royal Enfield Interceptor and Continental outsells more than 500 cc bikes in the foreign market.
