More and more people are taking to scooters in India due to an array of reasons, right from the convenience of an automatic to ease of riding and of course the fairer sex finds scooters more comfortable. Then again, scooters also have a footboard and a decent sized under-seat which further makes them more practical over motorcycles. Expectedly, the top selling scooter in India is the Honda Activa and for long, the second spot was occupied by the TVS Jupiter.
In a surprise development, the higher capacity Suzuki Access 125 has outsold the TVS Jupiter to become the second highest selling scooter in India. Last month, Suzuki managed to sell more Access scooters with the excess over the Jupiter being 3224 units. TS sold 51,300 units of the Jupiter in January 2019 and in the same month, Suzuki managed to sell 54,524 units. The increase in demand for 125cc scooters was all but expected. The market has been shifting towards more powerful scooters off late.
TVS also has a 125cc scooter on offer in the form of the NTorq 125 but the Indian automaker's scooter is positioned towards younger buyers with a lot of youthful features. However we believe this trend won't last long and the Jupiter might just get back to becoming the second largest selling scooter in India in the coming months.
