Morris Garage set to launch eZS electric SUV after launch of MG Hector.

Chinese carmaker’s SAIC owned British brand’s Morris Garage’s first product in India will be the Hector SUV that will lock horns with models such as Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier in the market. The internet has been full of buzz, leaks, and rumors about MG Motor’s upcoming Hector, but the company also has long term plans in India and a part of these plans is bringing electric cars to India, something that now nearly all major manufacturers are working toward in their own manner. Right after the Hector SUV, MG will launch their eZS electric car in India and ahead of its launch the Chinese-owned British brand has displayed its upcoming electric SUV at the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS).

Amid leaks about MG also brining a hybrid version of their upcoming Hector SUV to India, the brand had announced that they will bring an electric SUV as their next car in India. The launch of the freshly unveiled eZS electric SUV in India may take place as early as the end of this very year so that the maker has the first mover advantage in the electric SUV segment. The upcoming car will be launched as a premium product. As of now there are no premium fully electric cars present in India and only Mahindra has the E2O hatch and Verito sedan in the electric car segment in India and they are far from premium products. The other makers are still working on their products and we may get to see more cars in the electric segment in the future. Talking about the MG eZS, the new electric SUV from the brand will be an international car and will be sold in many countries across the world.

The upcoming MG eZS electric SUV will come with a 150 Bhp electric motor that will offer a range of 335 km (as per the NEDC cycle) on a complete charge. This pits it squarely against the Hyundai Kona EV that has a similar range and is already sold in international markets. Although the brand did not confirm whether the eZS will be brought here in the same spec format, it could very well be the case as Hyundai too is gearing up to bring its Kona EV to India and we may get to see a rivalry between the two brands in the future.

MG will initially import the eZS in the Indian market as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and production of the electric SUV will begin at brand’s Halol plant as per the future demand. SAIC, the owner of MG brand has joined hands with CATL for lithium-ion batteries that will be used in the upcoming eZS SUV.
