Tata Nexon leaked pic hints at SUV’s electric model.

Tata Nexon recently left the Ford EcoSport behind to claim the second spot in the sales of sub-4 meter SUVs in India. The feature packed Tata offering has got something for everybody with its engine and gearbox options as well as the spacious interiors. There are reports that apart from the performance-oriented JTP badged version, the Indian maker was also working on a hybrid version of their sub-4 meter compact SUV. Now there are photos doing rounds on the internet that hint at the presence of an electric version of Nexon sub compact SUV. The biggest indication of the existence of such a version is the lack of a front radiator on the leaked photos, this has sparked the speculation that the brand may be working on an all-electric version of the Nexon sub-4 meter compact SUV.

The leaked pictures show a very blurred photo of the Nexon and this has led to the speculation that this leaked photo could be of the hybrid variant of the sub compact SUV as well. However, the lack of clarity in the photos does not lead to anything conclusive. The brand may bring the same drivetrain that it currently offers with their Tigor EV. Tata has already supplied the Tigor EV to EESL in India and has in part fulfilled the bulk order it received from the government. To let you know, the company had been working on a mild hybrid technology for quite some time as there were reports that the European technical centre of the Indian maker was sweating away at two 48-volt systems. There are reports that the upcoming premium hatchback of the company, the Altroz could come with a mild-hybrid feature and may be the brand will equip their Nexon sub-4 meter compact SUV with the same.

Tata Motors’ managing director, Guenter Butschek recently spoke about the company’s plans for electric vehicles and their dedication to bringing cleaner fuel vehicles to the Indian market and said,

“We have ensured that future architectures Alpha and Omega both are future-protected for EVs. Apart from working on higher range of Tigor and Tiago EV, our first two offerings on the Alpha architecture will have an EV option,”

As far as the internals of the electric version of the Altroz premium hatchback are concerned, the new electric car will come with a permanent magnet AC electric motor, but the brand has not revealed the battery capacity of the vehicle yet. What the company has hinted at is that the new Altroz electric hatchback could have a range of around 250-300 kilometers and the battery will come with the fast charge option that will enable the car to juice up to 80% in just an hour.

The company has also stated that they will indeed launch the electric H2X SUV in India. This would mean that apart from the electrified versions of Tiago, Tigor and the upcoming Altroz, the H2X’s production electric version would be the 4th Tata car to get the electric treatment for the Indian market. If the leaked picture is taken to be an electric version of the Tata Nexon, we could as well see the Nexon being the fifth electric car from the brand in India.
