The company was given permission to set up a wholly owned factory in free-trade zone to lower production costs.

Electric carmaker, Tesla, has chosen China over India to set up its first EV production base, according to Reuters.

China has eased policies that will help Tesla set up its production facility with ease. The wholly owned factory will be set up in a free trade zone, helping it to lower its production cost. From Tesla’s point of view, China has covered a good amount of ground in terms of electric mobility – the Chinese government is offering favourable subsidies in lieu of its 2019/2020 NEV targets. Our country, on the other hand, remains in its nascent stages and is in dire need of an adequate charging infrastructure, among other EV industry growth drivers.
