The first Make-In-India model would be a micro crossover codenamed CC21.

Citroen is making a late entry into the Indian market but it is making all the right noises. First, the French automaker will be launching the C5 Aircross during the month of March 2021 in the premium SUV segment. The new model is expected to retail at a starting price of Rs 28 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. The manufacturer plans to roll out locally produced models in the latter half of 2021. Citroen’s first Make-In-India model would be a micro crossover codenamed CC21. Earlier spotted testing in Brazil and now the vehicle has been spied in the state of Tamil Nadu. The spied model looks to be production-ready so the chances of arriving at dealerships in the second half of 2021 look quite realistic. Its pricing would be in the region of Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom), India. This would be done to increase Citroen's base in the fast-growing Indian market.

With the new micro crossover in the portfolio, Citroen intends to rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ignis, upcoming Tata HBX and Mahindra KUV100. The new Citroen CC21 will be based on a new modified version of Groupe PSA’s CMP (Common Modular Platform). It also underpins the Peugeot 208 hatchback. If one observes these spied images, the model is quite similar to the hatchback in terms of dimensions, hardware as well as design. So, it is quite reasonable to expect the Citroen CC21 to compete against premium hatchbacks like the Tata Altroz and Maruti Baleno. The platform has been modified to develop cars for the emerging markets like India, Brazil, and South Africa.

Talking about the styling, CC21 will incorporate Citroen’s signature design elements like a sleek grille, two-part lighting system plus the simple front profile. Much more will be known about the car in the coming days. On the other hand, the cabin will boast of a touchscreen infotainment system located within the center console. The system would offer support for Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. Plus, there would be automatic climate control, keyless entry among many other features. Also, Citroen CC21's boxy design indicates a spacious cabin with good space for the rear occupants.

It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with performance figures in the region of 100 bhp and 150 Nm of peak torque. Citroen is bringing India’s first flex-fuel engine with the CC21. It can run on both petrol and ethanol blends. Indian buyers can look forward to manual and automatic transmissions in this vehicle.
