Vespa Elettrica production begins this month, India launch in 2019

Vespa is all set to enter the electric scooter segment with the Elettrica. Production begins this month for the international market while India launch is in 2019.

Elettrica e-scooter by Vespa which is already developed and production ready will make its way to India during mid-2019. The development is completely done in Italy and initially will go on sale in the European market. Full-fledged production will commence by the end of 2018.

The Vespa Elettrica will be powered by a 4-kW electric motor churning out 5.4 HP of power and 20 Nm of torque. Instant torque will be present as it’s an e-scooter. The maximum range of the vehicle will be 100 kms. The lithium-ion battery pack charges within four hours and the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) in the scooter recharges the battery while braking.

Vespa will also introduce a hybrid line of scooters called Elettrica X in India. The combination of electric motor and combustion engine will increase the maximum range to 200 kms. The e-scooter will go on sale in U.S. and Asian market from early 2019 and we can expect its India launch at the same time. When launched Vespa Electtrica will have to go head to head with the already launched Ather 340.
