The T-Roc SUV will be positioned below the Tiguan in the carmaker’s global line-up. A prototype of the car reveals it is more rakish than any other VW SUV. The car features a new-look front end, thick aluminium side panels and 20-inch wheels.
The car’s length is similar to the VW Golf, and it is built on VW’s modular MQB platform. There will be six engines available at launch - three petrols and three diesels. The car will be offered in two and four-wheel drive versions with a manual gearbox and DSG dual-clutch automatic offered as well.
Frank Welsch, VW’s head of R&D pointed out that the recent Arteon brought a new expression to VW’s exterior styling, and the T-Roc “inside and out has more emotion than you would normally expect from a Volkswagen”.
“We have a clear idea of how a Volkswagen should be,” said Welsch, “and this is what we’ve tried to reach here. We’ve also made this car quieter, from wind noise and road noise and so on. People like more and more comfort.”
In India, VW recently launched the Tiguan and may be looking to introduce the T-Roc as well.
