Triumph has made an addition to the Bonneville family with the introduction of the Speed Twin. The 2019 Speed Twin slots right between the practical and casual Bonneville T120 and the committed Thruxton R cafe racer.
The 2019 Speed Twin is powered by the same 1200cc engine as seen on the Thruxton R. Power peaks at 96 BHP and torque at 112 Nm. At 196 kgs, the Speed Twin is 10 kgs lighter than the Thruxton R, while the engine also gets lighter components like the magnesium cam covers and revised clutch assembly leading to another 2.5 kgs of weight being saved. The ergonomics are sporty as well. Triumph promises a sporty machine in the Speed Twin.
While the bike is based on the Thruxton R’s frame, it has been designed especially for the Speed Twin with 41 mm KYB cartridge-type forks for the suspension. The seat height is set to 807 mm making it comfortable for shorter riders. Braking is taken care of by 305 mm four-piston Brembo callipers on the front and a single 220 mm floating calliper from Nissin at the rear. ABS and traction control are standard. Three riding modes are available with the Ride-by-wire throttle - Rain, Road and Sport. 17-inch wheels with Pirelli Corsa III types are provided on the bike.
While the unveiling just took place, the Speed Twin might be launched sometime in mid-2019 in India. It will be priced similarly to its sibling in the range of Rs. 10-12 lakhs (ex-showroom).
