The Mumbai Police, one of the finest police forces in the world, issued a record number of challans for violating lockdown rules on June 28, 2020. The cops in Mumbai impounded nearly 7075 vehicles for breaking the lockdown, including the new government directive that restricted citizens to travel beyond two-km radius of their residences except for going to offices and medical emergencies. Though, several people protested against the Mumbai police by calling it 'unjust, unfair and unreasonable' as they were headed to office or buying essentials when their vehicle was seized.

"Driving Past 2 km of your place of residence for fun? We know a spot of your car," tweeted Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh. Though, the Maharashtra state government has started providing several relaxations under the "Mission Begin Again" initiatives such as the reopening of salons, barbershops and parlours but with proper safety and precautions. "By Sunday evening, police impounded about 5,000 vehicles, including two, three and four-wheelers, from all 12 zones in the city," the official said.zones in the city," the Mumbai Police official told. The maximum number of 1297 vehicles were impounded in zone 10 (Jogeshwari East-Andheri East) of the financial capital of the country till Sunday evening.

The traffic police impounded 2000 vehicles, of which maximum were two wheelers (1372), followed by private cars (297), three wheelers (165) and taxis (128). The local poilce impounded 5075 vehicles in separate instances. "On June 28, more than 7,000 citizens violated unlocking rules by moving vehicles in the absence of formal/medical reasons or emergencies. We hope that Mumbaikars will follow all the rules to help us unlock the city properly," tweeted the official Mumbai Police handle. The entire country is struggling with COVID-19 pandemic with Maharashtra being at the top with 1 Lakh+ cases and Mumbai with the highest number of cases like 80,000+ and still counting.
