With the festive season around the corner, automakers are all set to launch new products in the Indian market. The 2020 Hyundai i20 launch date in India, reportedly, is October 28. However, ahead of the launch, Hyundai i20 turbo petrol was spotted testing, albeit with heavy camouflage. Thanks to our friends at Team-BHP, we got our hands on the spy shots of the 2020 Hyundai i20 turbo. As reported earlier by us, the new-gen hatchback will come with the same engine options as that of the Venue. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol variant would come with a 7-speed DCT unit. This would be the first time that Hyundai i20 is coming with a 7-speed gearbox in the country. The 2020 Hyundai i20 rivals would be Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz in the Indian market. The hatchback will measure below 4 metres in length to save on the taxes.
The new-gen Hyundai i20 would be lighter, spacious, powerful and loaded with never-seen-before features in comparison to the outgoing model. The India-spec new-gen i20 design and styling are similar to the international-spec model which is already on sale in the European countries. At the front, you can spot the new cascading front grille, a redesigned bumper and sleek-looking headlamps. Moving on to the rear profile, there are new updates like the Z-shaped LED tail lamps connected together with the help of an LED bar, besides the diffuser and revamped bumper. In the earlier spy shots, we also observed that half of the boot lid is blacked out. The spied mule gets a new set of alloy wheels which are quite different from the Euro-spec model.
Expect a lot of features to roll over from the international model of i20 to the Indian version of the hatchback. The 2020 Hyundai i20 interior would boast of features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, fully digital instrument cluster, LED ambient lighting and wireless charging. Standard Hyundai offerings like BlueLink connected technology, smart cruise control, intelligent speed limit information and blue link telematics would also be there.
Apart from the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with the DCT automatic unit, the premium hatchback would come with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The petrol engine would be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission while the diesel unit would come with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
With new engine options and features, the 2020 Hyundai i20 price would be at a premium over the older model. The ongoing Hyundai i20 price in Delhi is Rs 6.56 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
