The 2020 new-gen Mahindra Thar will come with substantial cosmetic and mechanical updates.

The 2020 new-gen Mahindra Thar has been in waiting for too long and various speculative launch timelines have been given for the SUV in the Indian market. It is being keenly awaited by the auto enthusiasts since February as the company was first expected to showcase it at the 2020 Auto Expo. However, the unveil and launch was shifted to April and now it has been learnt that Mahindra has pushed it to the festive season of October. For those asking, the 2020 new-gen Thar will come with substantial cosmetic and mechanical updates.

Recently, Veejay Ram Nakra, CEO - Automotive Business, Mahindra and Mahindra, told carandbike that Mahindra Thar will be officially launched once the lockdown is completely lifted. But, there seems to be a last minute change now as Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra, during the announcement of the company's quarterly results, said that new-gen Thar will debut during early October and the delay has been made due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Dr. Goenka went on to state that, "In my 41 years I have not seen a challenge what we have seen in the last 3 months. Supply chain disruptions started in mid-Feb. This, lockdown and BS6 norms have had a big impact on business."

The all-new Mahindra Thar has been spotted testing several times and the camouflaged test mules have hinted that the production-ready model will come with a boxy silhouette. In fact, the SUV will also gain LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs) and LED tail-lamp cluster. The spare wheel will be mounted on the rear door like before. The cabin will take a radical departure in terms of features as compared to the current model with the inclusion of touchscreen infotainment system, auto climate control, dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, speed alert system etc. to name a few. It will also have a front facing second row of seats with fixed headrests while BS6 compliant 2.0L turbocharged mStallion petrol and 2.2L turbocharged diesel engines will be offered as standard.
