Toyota Kirloskar Motors is the fourth-largest automaker in India after Maruti, Hyundai and Mahindra. One of the biggest reason for its rise in popularity is the Toyota Fortuner. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has sold over 160,000 units of the Fortuner SUV in India since it made its debut in 2009. In the luxury SUV segment, it has a sizeable market share while competing against SUV's like the Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X and Mahindra Alturas G4. Keeping with new BS6 emission norms, Toyota has launched the Fortuner BS6 variant.
Toyota is working on a facelifted Fortuner with the launch expected somewhere around this year. The SUV has been spotted testing and recently IADesign or Indonesia Automotive Design (@ia.dsgn on Instagram) came up with a rendering of the 2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift. The rendering is based on the spy images leaked so far. Fortuner Facelift is far sharper in design compared to the current model and the front is completely changed. Redesigned headlamps with projector LED head lights and a revamped grille featuring chrome inserts on either side are key highlights of this facelifted SUV.
Toyota borrows some ideas from Lexus in regards to the bumper which is sharper and comes with a huge wide air dam. Fog lamp clusters have been totally reworked. The rear of the SUV isn’t visible in the rendered image but we can expect changes like an edgier bumper, updated taillights.
Mechanically, we won’t see a different engine. Toyota Fortuner Facelift will be coming with the engine powering the recently launched BS6 Fortuner. The BS6 Fortuner currently has 2 engine options - 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel. The 2.7-litre petrol powerplant churns out 164 bhp of maximum power output and 245 Nm of peak torque. While the 2.8-litre diesel Fortuner generates 174bhp of power with 450 Nm torque. The petrol Fortuner is sold in only RWD format with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. The diesel engine is available in both RWD and AWD format. Toyota BS6 Fortuner price begins from Rs 28 lakhs (ex-showroom) India, which is marginally higher than the BS4 model.
India has now become the world’s fifth country to have its own vehicle crash safety test network.
