2021 Kia Seltos scores well for Crash Prevention System with poor headlamps says Insurance Institute for Highway Safety - U.S.

Kia Seltos marked the debut of Kia Motors in India. Unveiled in June 2019, the South Korean automaker has sold over 80,000 plus units of the compact SUV. Kia added one more feather to its cap as US-spec 2021 Seltos scored good well in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s testing. 2021 Kia Seltos did good in the crash test as it was rated highly for its front-crash prevention systems. The only downside was that the headlights weren’t up to the desired standard. Thus poor headlights meant that the Kia Seltos could not compete in the insurance-industry-backed IIHS awards: Top Safety Pick Plus or the lesser Top Safety Pick.

Seltos was rated good on 6 parameters of IIHS crashworthiness - side and roof strength, head restraints, driver-side small overlap front, passenger -side small overlap front and moderate overlap front. It also got superior grades for optional front-crash-prevention systems in two categories - vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian crash prevention tests.

Kia Seltos US production version comes in 3 variants - SX trim, S and EX and the LX base model. US-spec Kia Seltos comes fitted with 3 different headlights - base halogens, halogens with high-beam assist and LEDs. All three were given poor scores by the IIHS for its inadequate illumination on curves.

In India, Kia Seltos introductory price begins from Rs 9.89 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. Key safety highlights include driver & passenger airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, day & night rear view mirror, Follow Me Home Headlamps among many others. 2020 BS6 Kia Seltos is sold in two variants - Smartstream 1.5 6MT and 1.5 CRDi VGT 6MT. Talking about the Smartstream variant, it comes equipped with a petrol engine that delivers 113 bhp of maximum power and 144 Nm of peak torque. While the 1.5 CRDi diesel variant produces 113 bhp of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options comprise of a manual and an automatic for both the variants.
