Mahindra all set to unveil the next-generation XUV500 by the end of this year; likely to be launched in 2021.

Mahindra & Mahindra have quite a few products lined up to be launched in the Indian market. With the Government easing up the restrictions, the company has restarted the testing process for their upcoming vehicles. Recently, the next-generation Mahindra XUV500 was spotted testing on public road in Chennai. Spy shots of the test mule of the upcoming SUV in heavy camouflage in Attibele, near Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, has been leaked online giving us a fair idea of what it could look like.

The SUV was seen riding on steel rims which indicates that it might be a lower variant. It is believed that the vehicle could be based on an all-new monocoque platform. The 2021 XUV500 is expected to come equipped with a host of updates and the addition of new features. It is also likely to get subtle design changes. Mechanically, the upcoming model is expected to feature an all-new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that will replace the current 2.2-litre unit. Furthermore, this 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine is likely to be powering the much-awaited 2020 Mahindra Thar as well. Currently, the XUV500 is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that belts out 155 bhp power and 360 Nm torque. The engine is linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with an automatic transmission as an option. The 2021 XUV500 is expected to receive a different state of engine tuning. Apart from this, the higher variant of the SUV might come with an AWD system.

The Indian automaker Mahindra launched the first-generation XUV500 SUV back in 2011. A popular offering in the SUV segment, the XUV500 hardly had any competition in its category. However, with the introduction of multiple new models, Mahindra gave several updates to the SUV over time. Now the company is all set to launch the next-generation XUV500. Initially, the SUV was slated to be launched this year but due to COVID’19 lockdown, the launch has been postponed to 2021. It is expected to be pricier than the current model.
