Nissan has teased 2021 Kicks ahead of its global launch this month

Nissan Kicks has struggled to carve out a niche for itself in the highly-competitive compact SUV segment. There are multiple reasons for the Kicks to have a low success rate in the domestic market. A few of them are limited number of dealerships available across the country as well as poor marketing strategy in India. When we take a look at the global markets, then the story is different with Nissan Kicks being one of the best-selling models for the Japanese manufacturer.  Keeping this aspect in mind, Nissan has released a new teaser of the upcoming 2021 Kicks for the foreign markets.

Earlier this year, 2021 Nissan Kicks was launched in Thailand with a hybrid powertrain option. The compact SUV flaunts Nissan's signature V-Motion grille which is way bigger than the current model. Also, the front bumper is reworked to house the new black-finished grille. Some of the key design elements include a new set of sleek-looking LED headlights upfront. Towards the rear, one can spot new taillights and a redesigned bumper.  The new model is based on a different platform in comparison to the Indian-spec Kicks which is underpinned by the M0 platform.

Going by the teased images of the interior, the cabin more or less will remain the same as the outgoing model. Some of the updates could include a revamped dashboard, larger infotainment system and AC vents positioning. Further, the buyers can look forward to a new semi-digital instrument cluster.

The brand has not revealed anything about the powertrains but don’t hold high hopes for the e-power hybrid coming to the global market. The Thailand-spec model engine is a blend of a petrol engine, Li-ion battery, electric motor and power generator. 2021 Kicks for the international market is expected to be powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre inline-four cylinder engine offering a CVT gearbox.

In India, the Nissan Kicks has been due for an update with its main rival Hyundai Creta getting a huge makeover this year. The Japanese giant is focussing on the subcompact SUV segment with the recent launch of Magnite. The manufacturer is currently expanding its dealership network in the country to increase its consumer base. In case Magnite works for Nissan, Indian buyers can hope for new model introductions like 2021 Kicks among many others.
